New Fairfield was settled in the early 1700's by pioneers from the coastal town of Fairfield. Shortly thereafter New Fairfield was purchased from Squantz, Chief of the Schaghticoke Indians, for 65 pounds of sterling. In 1740, the 14-mile long area (which was referred to as the "upper seven" and "lower seven") was incorporated and divided into Sherman and New Fairfield.
Through the years since then, New Fairfield has developed into one of the most sought after communities in the area. It's a wonderful town to raise a family and simply a wonderful town to call home!
